SupportLAS announces LAS Board of Education
candidate endorsements for the November 2024 election
For Immediate release: Lowell, Michigan
SupportLAS has announced its candidate endorsements for the Nov. 5, 2024, Lowell Area Schools Board of Education election.
Candidates endorsed are:
● Jessica Curtis, incumbent
● Brian Krajewski, incumbent
● Laurie Kuna, incumbent
● Annie McMahon-Whitlock
The endorsements come after a four-person committee rated each candidate’s responses to 11 questions, individually and then collectively. Rating was based on four criteria that align with the SupportLAS’s understanding of the district’s mission.
Responses from the three incumbents show a depth of experience, knowledge and judgment our committee members agree is crucial and valuable to continuing the district’s long-standing commitment to improving and maintaining a high standard of learning for its students, encouraging staff and administrators to continually strive to act in the best interests of students and the community, and adhering to state and federal law.
We believe challenger Annie McMahon-Whitlock’s professional expertise and longtime, varied community and district involvement will be a strong contribution to the board.
Candidate Sharon Shah is not endorsed. While we acknowledge and appreciate her interest, her non LAS-specific responses and incorrect enrollment figure provided — easily verified as false — are deeply concerning.
“LAS Board of Education trustees are at the forefront of promoting and maintaining the integrity of our district,” reads SupportLAS’s mission statement. “As such, SupportLAS will endorse a slate of candidates we feel best represent those attributes.”
SupportLAS was formed in 2020. The group mobilized community members as a way to counter unnecessary, unwarranted criticisms of educators and administrative staff, so they can focus their time and attention on students. SupportLAS operates entirely independently of the district.
